CERAMICS

Most of my work is “one-off” hand built pieces made with coils of clay, which are painstakingly scraped smooth and burnished, sometimes using slip colours to enhance the decoration, then the piece is smoked. This is done by putting them in a brick box, with a mixture of newspaper and sawdust, and then it is set alight and smouldered for about 30 minutes.
I am strongly influenced by organic objects such as seedpods, buds, stones and the colours in rock formations.
I also have a range of traditional kitchen slipware, which I hand throw on the wheel, and decorate in earthy colours such as blues, greens and yellows.
